Went out to look @ what I have and...
Looks that my primary has been replaced? Has "96 Vmax" and looks to have "600" below it with a yellow paint marker. Weights say 8AB with an 01 underneath. I don't see rivets in the 1st hole, but looks to have some in the 2nd hole that I can see. Primary spring has a solid purple mark on it. Helix has an 8BV on it with a 48 43 stamped on it as well, secondary is wrapped in #3 hole. Looks to be stock secondary spring.

So, what do I got, no stock clutch specs for a 96 Vmax in the Tech section, to see if my clutching has been changed from a stock 96 clutch.

Thanks again for any help. Maybe Turk could help out too.

PS-- I haven't ridden the sled yet, (carb cleaning yet) but down the street and back when it snowed a couple weeks ago seemed to move out good though.

Gotta know what your wide open rpm,s are with the sled on snow...No body no how can make a guess like that. Not even close. How can we suggest anything from you seeing 1/4 of a clutch set up?. We don,t even know what gearing is or how your secondary is set up. gotta have sled running on snow.plus after u tell us rpm,s you have to tell us exactly how secondary & primary are set up.

I was wondering is what an 8ab weight is out of, I know they are not the stock weights. Don't know if someone just threw a clutch on it from a 96 600. If that's the case, my clutching is probably way off?? Just want to know if what I'm starting off with is way out of the ballpark from what should be on it. (if it is just a 96 600 clutch thrown on it) Gearing is stock.

I'll try to get out tomorrow and see what it does.

The 8ab came from the factory in the 600 SX models in 97-98 and I wouldn't doubt that they were in the 96 also.

OK, I just got done doing snow removal, 3.5" of fresh stuff... Going to clean the carbs tomorrow and take it out and see what I got.

Will let ya know what it does..

Thanks.

8ab's i believe were stock '96 vmax 600 weights as well. they work good in 500 sx-r's too.

goody, are you checking/messing w/the clutching on the srx or vmax?

Well I took out the Vmax, engagement is right around 3500. Depending on the surface, at initial hit, RPMs start a 8000-8200 and climb to 8500-8600 by the time I'm @ 50-60MPH. Pulls hard, only went up to about 90 on speedo, but pulled real good to there. Seemed to flatten out a bit right around there. If it hooks decent initially, engine seems like it really has to work, but RPMs climb right up to 8500-8600 within a couple seconds.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

If this is a 700 triple you need more tip weight. Try adding 2 grams.

It is a 700, an 8ab weight has 2 holes in it, I know there is a rivet in the second hole that I can see. How do I know which rivet to get? Weigh the weights on a gram scale, with and without rivets, and then go from there I would guess? My friend has a good scale for his model heli/airplane stuff, so that's no problem.
What kind of RPMs should I be shooting for?

Thanks.

700 red heads d'ont like to be loaded down low , 8ch and 8cr weights require 109kg to 112 of force to function properly low /and on top, 8ab will require a stiffer spring to run down low , alternatively will give a litlle quicker accelaration but you will loose some top end , so what do yo want to do ?
corner to corner accelaration
600 ft.
lake race
???????

8ab's
add a bit of tip weight or reduce the gear ratio a bit , example if your @ 1.71 reduce to 1.69, rpm,s should drop for ya shoot for 8350 and creep to 8500 wot

Corner to corner acceleration is what I like, or smaller type 200-300yd straights in between corners, is what I'd like to shoot for. Something when I come out of the corner and get on it for those 2-5 seconds, it pulls like a raped ape.

Like I said in one of my earlier posts, if it hooks decent initially, it seems like the motor really has to work for 1 or 2 seconds.

try it.....

8AB-00 weights
4.5 tip
2.4 heel or 4.5 play with it to hit your target 8500
Y-G-Y
stock secondary green @ 60
52/43 or 51/43

Well, the sled seems to sit right around 8400-8500 the way it is, MAYBE 8600 TOPS is what I see, 8600 may be a stretch though. Seems to me the clutch has too much weight the way it is? Motor is really WORKING for the first 2 secs or so. If I'm on a surface were it hooks, RPMs might start @ 7800-7900 and then work up to 8400- 8500 over the course of 2-3 seconds. Maybe a new belt and then try again? although the belt on it is just about new...

Just don't want to throw $$ away is all.

Thanks
