Hello all newbe to your forum. my question is in reguards to my 1983 v-max 540cc liquid cooled. i finally need to do engine work on it im going to get new pistons for it (wiseco) my question is is this a plated cylinder? i was led to believe they didnt start plating the cylinders till the mid to late 90's. i noticed when i tore it apart that the mag side cylinder has a iron sleeve in it and the pto end cylinder has just the aluminum bore.... i know the engine has been apart before i got the machine. can i just over bore the cylinders and get on with my riding season?

hello and welcome... couple of things...

first off i think you should check out www.vintagevmax.com

second stock bore for a vmax is chrome.... someone along the line may have sleeved it with cast iron but i dont think i have ever heard of an aluminium bore on a vmax...

you will need to mate the ring material to the cylinder material in order do it right... meaning: chrome bores require non-chrome rings.... cast bores require chrome rings

hello again i am finding several places to get pistons but, none of them show the v-max is the srv and other air cooled pistons diffrent? will they interchange into a v-max motor?

DUDE, VERY SIMPLE, FIND GOOD USED CYLINDERS. TIME A DOZEN RIGHT NOW ESPECIALLY ON E BAY OR AY vintage.vmax.. 3:16 (yammie tony)
