Found this for sale locally. im new pretty new to yamaha so i dont know much about them. its a red and black 2002 viper with electric start and reverse. sled is nearly mint, second owner, its an older couple that just bought two new 4-strokes. they bought it from their friends who got it new. its all stock with no studs and track is in good shape. seat is mint. sled is in great shape.. only problem.. 9600 miles. they are asking 2000, i asked the women what their bottom dollar is, and she said her husband would probably only go to 1900 because "the dealer said it was in great shape"
any help would be good fast
thanx

Good "fair" price if the sled had the right maintenance and if it was taking care of......
Things to look for:
Track, skid and shocks. Look for bent rails, crack W arms, and good comp and rebound on shocks.
If you can open the Power valves and look for pulled cable and build up.
Check compression on all 3.
Check the clutches carefully at this point they might need some attention.
And if you get it CLEAN THE CARBS......
I have seen Viper with over 15k with original motor unopened.
Last but not least.....Loose the Kitty get a Yammy...
Good Luck
Nick

For an ER in Very Good condition it would be a pretty good deal around here, they are on CL for 3000 all day long, probably sell around 2500... I have been thinking of selling my Viper since they are bringing that kinda money...
Just look over the sled good, ask about what maintainence gets done to the sled during the year, check over the bogie wheels, track, shocks, skis, carbides... the power valves are held in by 4 allen head bolts, can pull em pretty quick to see if they have been cleaned/repaired/replaced, cylinder pressures usually run around 120 but are staggered 120-120-110 or so, seat rips, all depends on how picky you are...

Also, on the powervalves, when you check them, if one of them or more doesn't pull out relatively easily, could be a sign of poor maintenance.
Check chaincase fluid level and cleanliness of fluid as well.

That is a great price for that sled.
