Just replaced all of the following with OEM parts Radius Rods, Shocks, and Steering Tie Rods and this is the problem I have.
I can get one side dialed perfect ski straight and steering arm(arm on top of spindle) straight or lined up with trailing arm. But the other side is a differenct story..... When the ski is straight the steering arm is not lined up with spindle is that a problem. If your facing the sled the steering arm is pointed towards the left not lined up with the trailing arm. I tried to adjust the steering arm but it seemed like I wouldn't have very many threads left on the heim. Does that make sense? And what would the problem be if that steering arm isn't lined up with trailling arm?
Yes I'm a sled rookie so pardon the questions but gotta learn sometime.
Machine is a 2000 MM 700.
Thanks

there should be an index mark on both the spindle and the steering arm. i believe it is an "O" stamped on them. if these are lined up, and the adjustment isnt happening, you may be trying to use the wrong parts. different model yamaha sleds take different length tie and radious rods. only problem i can foresee by not having the steering components in the correct position, or wrong components, would be lack of ski alignment and inadequate turning radious, ie, one ski turns further than the other.

Check and make sure the spindle is pointed right and not 180 degrees off. My viper was acting the same way.

heim joints
Are you adj by the steering rod or just the outer heim joint? I have also seen spindles twisted by pulling on the skiis when stuck, like Snowdad says verify the alignment mark and adj by loosening both the inner and outer heim joints and rotating the steering rod.

another thought, the tie and radious rods have a "pre-install" length per model. perhaps you started with the heims incorrectly installed causing you to run out of threads. one end too far in, other end not far enough.

Yanked my skis out of alignment by towing (out of gas). Can I just loosen the nut at the top of the spindle to get them back close to alignment? Where is the MARK visible?
Thanks

heres a suggestion ,ussualy in the case of a steering system you dont fully adjust one side and than expect it to align on other if you apply to much tension(tightening down bolts on one side)its gonna throw off other side thats common mechanical knowledge,i cant say for a fact thats the prob but theres a reason they give you torque specs in two steps(to keep everything aligned) i cant specify this enough to people BUY A CHILTON/HANES or FACTORY MANUAL!
