I rebuilt the clutch on my 98 SSX project sled with a rebuild kit from Sport Parts Inc. installed new bushings and slides they didn't fit the best but I polished the bushing and slide up to make work smoothly back and forth. Well today I was testing the sled after my total rebuild this summer and after 15 miles of testing in a field I brought it back to the shop and was letting it idle and just looking it over under the hood and all of a sudden I hear a clunking noise from the clutch I shut the sled off to have piece of the slides falling out of the clutch. My clutch engagement is 5000 rpms and the sled at full throttle runs about 8000rpm plus or minus 100 rpms. My question is this are these clutch kits just junk? and maybe I should of bought OEM stuff. (That what I am going to do) Or do I have a bigger problem that I am not seeing? I am orderr a kit from my dealer today.

Well that engagement is a bit high. I can't say for sure that the not OEM kits are junk quality wise since I have only ever used Yamaha branded clutch parts in my primaries.
Yes the spi kit's are junk, been there done that.

SPI is junk! Neither one of the bushings fit. OEM is the only way, I have had good luck dealing with www.yamahasportsplaza.com . All OEM parts are 30% off. My dealer up here sucks, they stock basically no parts and charge max price for the ones they do have or you order. I can get parts faster and cheaper including shipping on most items.
