I know its not a yamaha, but I did not know where to post this and this spot gets lots of trafic. Anyways...

My friend has a 97 Arcticat 580 Powder Special EFI. The sled will pop and mis when under wide open throtle and definitly does it all the time when under a load, like hill climbing or busting trail, which makes it not hill climb or bust trail at full throtle.

He has replaced the computer with a used unit and that did not help. What do you guys think it is? Other EFI issues or stator...

From my experience:

This vintage of EFI Cats had "MAJOR STATOR" issues!!! In my area these Cats are pretty well all parked and growing trees through them! Replacing the stator with a new OEM unit is not the answer as it will just end up sick again![my nephew spent many $$$$.00 before giving up]
I did notice that Royal Distributing in Canada is selling aftermarket replacement stators for these sleds, if they are available in Canada they will definately be sold somewhere in the States...maybe worth a try?

Those stators are available on E bay for 200-250 bucks well worth the switch from oem on a kitty!

I will have to see about finding this stator in the states. Would a non-EFI stator be the same as the EFI version? just woundering, to see his options in picking up a good used one.

X2 on the stator, they are notorious. local guy near me in Mi. parts a lot of cats & sells a bunch of them- all the time. I tell him if cats weren't such junk he'd be out of business. I could get his # for you if interested in calling him, if he has one he will send it to you.

Two words..... Arctic Crap....... Owned a few in the past and had nothing but problems. If they were the only manufacturer that made sleds in the future I would quit sledding. Sorry! just had to get that out of my system. :yrules:

hahaha...I knew somone was going to flame me.

ottawaair - that would be great if you could get the number and I will pass it along to my friend.

lol... not to bad of a flame... i asked a doo question and was expecting it too! haha

this place is awesome to ask questions even if it doesnt entirely relate to yamaha... ive posted on a few other sled sites and got nothing out of it... this place.. got a couple of laughs from members and some good references...

cheers and good luck with your buddys sled...

We know we ride the best, thats why we don't get all bent out of shape when somebody comes around with another brand.

Battery voltage has to be up to snuff on that style efi or it will run awful. If you have anything less than 12.5 volts charge the battery. Otherwise you can check out statorkev.com and get the resistance values for the stator to test it. He rebuilds them for 150 bucks.
