I went to one of my local gas stations today to pick up 5 gallons of gas for the sled. I picked up 91 octane. When I got home I went to pour it into the sled and this is what I got I know gas is not what it used to be but what the f***. We are paying high prices for this crap?

jees... give it a few more years and we wont even be able to afford sledding or anything in those lines because we will be stuck buying clean race fuel... which is damn expensive... im paying 100$ (give or take) for 5gallons of 110 octane... but only use it in my atv since its heavly modified... but give it time.. and sleds wont even be able to run on pump gas with the way they are going

very sad.I guess it it an all out assault on 2 stroke motors for the future.Someone will be making money over this and it won't be us.We will all be forced to go 4-stroke on everything in the future or risk engine failure on a regular basis.Future looks dim for this sport.Us old timers are a different breed. The new comers won't be as numerous..cause...fuel prices, cost of sleds have sky rocketed,insurance...etc..Enjoy what you have for now as times are a changing..for the better of the environment. I have noticed already in this late sledding start for a season that a lot of motors are going down already. It is starting to make me nervous as well.If I blow my motor in the SRX..she will be sitting for a long time as funds are limited here. Then if I blow my SXR motor I will have to turn to the AC Pantera......

bluemonster.... it def is a scary thought... im not an old timer... and it wouldnt hurt me overall to go to a 4stroke.. but $$$$ is not there... and like you said... they are VERY expensive... and 2 strokes... you just cant beat em.. love em

I really wander how the dealerships are doing these days.If I look at Kijiji ads, there are tons of sleds for sale..much cheaper then the new sleds.Young guys don't have $$$ just laying around,so they go for a used sled first.Back in 81 I thought $4000 was alot for the SRX440 that I bought, but I had money laying around. Now when I go to my local dealer..they always are trying to sell me a new 4-stroke. They tell me..."it'll look good on you and you can make monthly payments" .I say .."Nice looking sleds, but I'll stick to my 2-strokers".They sure don't want to hear that. I cannot end up paying nearly $20,000 on a new sled..(including taxes, insurance and gear) for short snowless winters.I have to worry about paying my house bills before that.

all three pilots on my sxr were plugged ( 1 season ). looked in the bottom of the tank w/ a bendalite... same stuff as in your picture covered the bottom. had to take the tank out & flush. also replaced the fuel filter. in the very near future E15 will relace E10. these motors will not operate on E15 w/o catastrophic failure.

wouldn't this bad gas even plug up the fuel injectors on 4 stroke vehicles and sleds??

bluwulff..what does that stuff feel like. Can'e believe you have that in Ontario. Our 91 premium here is good, none of that crap in it.Man I would not run your sled with that crap.

it feltlike is was almost like snow but if you rubbed it inbetween your fingers it would break down into liquid again, it also has a different smell to it once removed from the fuel. Know wonder why our sleds have to be cleaned out all the time I am scared to look at the fuel filter. But I don't know it just might be from that gas station not selling their 91 octane fuel due to the fact that it is so high priced. I am thinking of putting a fuel screen into my sled to help. I remember just a couple of years ago the fuel coming out of a jerry can was nice and clear now everytime it has a yellowish tinge to it. I am going to go try a different gas station and see what I get from their pumps. But it is funny I pulled carbs to clean them and they were spotless and I have been running their fuel all along.

that sure resembles ice.... never heard of "phased ethinal" as ethanol is soluable in gasoline and has a very low freezing point (-115 degrees C)..
... stay the hell away from that gas station.. tj..

well it was not ice cause I had it in my garage for about a 1\2 hour before I did anything with it. all I can say is I will be going to try a different gas station

phazed fuel will freeze its highly saturated with water, if you take phazed fuel and dump it in a pale of water it will turn white like milk

hey guys... I found an excellent article explaining ethanol added fuel, it's hazards, lack of hazards etc... a short but sweet read for those who are interested... It may or may not put our fears or lack of to rest... it's a small pdf download.. tj

Looks like ice/water,seen it before but not that bad, crap gas sits in the under ground tank and draws moisture, then you wonder why people mod(raise comp) there sleds and smoke em from deto.

interesting read and scary at the same time. What has this world come to..we pay so much for gas now and could end up with a situation where there is more water in the fuels. We want pure clean fuel and that is it,forget the blending. The way I see it in the future..all 2 strokes are foobar...hooped...and f@*ked.!!!!

I agree with you Daman

yea.... im sure everyone one will agree with daman on that one!... and when you do pay for real good gas... your paying a CRAP load... sadly... when people refer to good clean fuel... they are usually refering to race fuel... which is usually 100octane + well the minimum i can get is 100 from stinson.... would be a very expensive sport trail riding with that...
