i bought a rebuilt clutch off of here and i finally got to test it out today. i know i need a new belt but everything seemed to be running good. take off seemed high at over 4000 (could be the belt) and at wot on snow was pretty steady at 8500. ive seen posts of similar sleds, not any 96's, and they were saying upper 7000's were the best performance peaks. im thinking a new belt would bring the rpms down a little, but not sure how much. could the weights be off a little on the clutch??? or am i in the ball park sled pulled fine ran good. smooth. just wondering where i should be at thanks i know on the setup on my v4 800, a 96 also, ideal rpms are supposed to be 8350 so, im guessing it could be the 600 is setup ok, just needs a belt to lower the rpms a little bit.

hmmm, I just had my clutch serviced by my yammie dealer and it tops out at 8200...
All factory spings and weights in primary and I have a SRX secondary with factory spring and helix.
Using two out of three gaskets on the head
18 tooth upper gear
7t driver
not hyjacking, just adding info that may help out us both.

Ok. My weights are 89L. No rivets. The spring is a single pink it looks to be. Possible white. Kinda scuffed right there figures. I did buy a new belt today and the other was worn and sitting in th secondary pretty far. The new one sits up much higher looks to be correct. But on the original clutch that I blew up last year the weights are 8ab with 2 rivets? Now. I'm still learning about this stuff so bear with me. I'm thinking I will learn a lot with this lesson Let me know if you need more info I'll see what I can do. I want to make this right if not stock a little upgrade such as a srx spring I've been told by yamigod. Let me know what you guys are thinking thanks.

My '97 600 with the mods will spin up as high as 8100-8200 in the right situations then it will settle down to 7800 as the speeds pass 85 with full throttle.
I ran 8AB's for a bit. Didn't like them. Got new 8CR's with the stock weight (see charts) and the 89L belt using my "Maxx Performance" 600 twin performance helix it works great. Might not be as fast on the top end as it can be but the ride-ability is great and my gas mileage is very nice.
When in doubt check the belt. A worn one caused me to run damn near 8500 at WOT. With no other changed but the belt I was back at 7800. Also twins are hard on rollers and weights. Check yours for wear. The backside of the weights can develop ridges in places that they are used the most often.

8500 on a twin is too high, stock pipe or GYT twins unless you are running aftermarket race pipes.
Assuming that you are not, get it under 8200! You are just making noise and no power above that.
Check your belt width.
