Hi Guys,
I am a new-b on Totally Yamaha and this is a great site!
My bro-in-law just picked up a couple used sleds, one of them is 99 SRX 700 triple. Last Saturday we were trying to get the SRX to go, but it wouldn't move and we started to smell burned rubber. We checked that the track was free and it was, and then I gave it a decent amount of throttle and it started going. We rode for an hour or so and it was fine.
Yesterday, it started to do the same thing and the sled wouldn't move. I have been doing some research and read that this could be related to a dirty clutch??
Any help is appreciated!
-Mike

Staggs hit the nail on the head! Probally most likely jackshaft if the track turns freely!

SOUNDS LIKE BEARING ISSUE IN THE DRIVELINE, BUT PULL THAT PRIMARY CLUTCH APART AND INSPECT. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Thanks everyone. Can anyone recommend a shop or mechanic in Southern NH (Derry)to inspect driveline / jackshaft bearings and replace if necessary?
Are special clutch tools required to pull the Yamaha clutches?

It will cost you $$$ to get a shop to do it! You need a puller to get the primary off, 18mm, then its as simple as some sockets and a ratchet to take apart the clutches. The jackshaft bearings are the hardest ones ,as you have to pull the chaincase and airbox. Max 2 hrs for someone that never done it before if you need a shop manual there is lots available on here!http://rapidshare.com/files/325402371/1998-1999_MSRX_SRX_Snowmobile_LIT-12618-01-95.pdf.html

Thanks Kirk700! I have downloaded the owners manual for this sled. Will the sled eventually not move at all if it's the driveline / jackshaft bearing??
Happy New Year!

make sure that track is not set way to tight ..........
Mike,
i recently yanked off a clutch on a 99 SRX. i did a lot of reading and came up with two things. First oil the threads before torquing. Second, Filling the hole cavity with oil and then inserting the puller head creates a hydraulic effect can work beautifully. Even when using the oil trick, the puller needs a LOT of torque. i got my puller from mfgsupply.com, the item number is below
Quan Item No. Description Price Subtotal

when i pull the clutch i insert the puller... put my ingersoll impact on it and let it rip. the clutches blow off every time. i know its not the ....reccommended.... (do at your own risk) way but ive never had a problem with it. btw. this is an old thread...
