Im ripping the motor out of my 2001 sxr700 For a rebuild top and bottom due to high mileage. Can you guys give me some cheap mods to do while I have down time and the motor out? Plan on doin the headgasket mod and maybe reed spacers. Whats your opinion on these? Can I run pump gas with 1 gasket?

With the head gasket mod it is required that you run premium fuel. The only cheap mod that I can suggest is making sure that there are no mis matches in gasket surfaces meaning since you're going to have the motor apart blueprint it. Reed spacers - helped my sled out.

I only run premium in all my toys anyway. So I only use 1 of the felt gaskets right? Also, I looked at my reed cages and theres some gold spacers on them that arent too thick. Are these stock? There less than 1/4".

The factory reed blocks are gold I believe, thats probably what your looking at.Most reed spacers are natural aluminum color, but I have saw them custom made from plastic or wood.My reed spacers are a 1/4" thick and you'll see gaskets on both sides when installed.

Cool another cheap and free mod. Whats the opinion on pipes or a boost bottle? Will be adding reverse in the near future also.

the stock head gasket has 3 layers. if you do the "head gasket mod", you only pull out the middle layer and run the outer 2. also, i would suggest reed spacers and pipes. i personally wouldn't mess w/the boost bottle. also, you could get your cylinders ported.

then, you should look into the tech pages, and pick one of turk's setups. you'll need to reclutch if putting pipes on and porting.

Not ready for pipes or porting just wanna ride it!!! Will clutching make it engage lower in the rpms or will I have 2 change the gear drive sprockets. Just seems like 3900 rpms is really high to get moving.

3900 rpm, isn't really considered high engagement. that's average. you don't change gearing, to change engagement.....you change the primary spring to adjust engagement, or heel weight (if running HC's). if you're not ready for motor mods, then why are you asking what you could do to make more power? just throw the engine back together and ride.

I am only looking for some cheap mods or any maintainance mods to do while its down thats all. Just want a reliable easy to ride sled and just thought that it engaged a little high. So I need to change the primary spring? Would having it engage a little lower hurt overall performance. 100 mph is enough for me just want a good trail sled.

Well I just want to ride it! I got it during this summer and it blew up first 5 miles out. Once I ride it Ill be able to know what I need to adjust to my liking.
