TL433 Running poorly

Hello, I have a 74 TL433 that I bought 2 years ago as a first sled. It ran ok for the first year then was stuttering last year after storage. I removed the carb and cleaned everything up. These carbs are really complicated inside but I did the usual jet and orfice cleaning that you would do on any carb and put everything back together as it was, except for the drain plug. For some reason it seems to be adjustable, and I didn't notice that it was until it was too late.

Now the problem. It starts after about 5 or six pulls but i cannot accelerate almost at all. As soon as I do it bogs until I let off the throttle. It will idle forever, but as soon as you give it too much throttle it dies. if I give it 1/4 throttle or less it will move slowly.

Has anyone had experience with these carbs? Is there something simple I am missing? Is there an after market rebuild kit?
 
Hi Reveal ......It's can be an annoying bi yearly habit or sometimes worse.
First off '''sure its a74 ? should/could be single cog drive with double sliders
or an elusive bogie version....red stripe on side of hood...orig red stripe on seat if sliders....gold stripe is a 75 w double drive cogs , black seat and would
have been built in summer of 74 for a mfg date ...diff carb than 74 ,,,,
Generally you take them apart , find nothing wrong , put it together and it works again .....adj screw on btm is fuel pressure....you screw it in and lock
the nut when fuel is about 1/2 way up glass tube ,,,,,can send tech info from book maybe if you have somewhere to have it faxed.,,,,maybe email/PM me ??
I'm north of Toronto...and was only aware of 1 other 74 near Ottawa in Ont.
My best TL433F had same problem ...tore carb apart twice, no change..
checked the impulse line,,,no cracks , not collasped..tried lower 1/2 of carb
from a donor sled ...still idled only....did crankshaft seal on ign side,,no better.
Tried a complete carb from a recent donor sled and it runs like a charm..!
I still don't know what was wrong before...

Forgot something ,,,the hydraulic torque converter is a neat device
but the sleds tend not to move on 1 cyl only or just an idle circuit..
It's not like a CVT sled where you can "punch" it up a few times and
get it to move with a boggy carb..it will just go "whaah whaah" and sit
there...LOL
what area are you from and have we met at a show ?

Earlier today I replaced the fuel lines and primer bulb, checked the impulse line and pressure tested the bottom end and everything says it should go. Now it fires on the 3rd pull and holds an amazing idle.

As far as the year, I guess it is a 75 as it has the gold stripe and a different carb from the one shown for a 74 on the yamaha parts fiche. I am so glad I am not the only one that has this problem. I know the carb is sparkling clean inside so I will take it apart one more time just incase I missed something and try again.

The hydraulic drive is really neat. I don't know why this idea didn't stick. It seems so much better than the belts, but I am way too new to this game to have an opinion! I just picked up a Vmax for the trails but I still love something about my little idle only TL, and I am planning to restore it as it is in fairly good condition for its age.

I haven't been to any shows, but once I get into the TL a little more I definitely will. I am from 'north of toronto' too. A little unknown place called east gwillimbury. I am sure you have heard of it!

Good afternoon Ron Rick here from Kitchener just when i thought i was the only owner of 1 of these beast then i find you guys(reveal) just picked up a 1975 TL 433 G not sure what i maybe needing to do as yet but going to try and get it together for a ice fishing venture in a month or so
thought i would drop a line. not sure what i am getting in to here sled has been sitting for about 20 years under a pine tree feels like good compression but i am missing a few parts hood scoop maybe got to have a scoop tranny lever thing that comes up left side just under handle bar seems to be gone few other goodies as i search everyone else s sleds wondering might you have odds and ends about will know a bit more once i get it out from the old pine tree it went threw the ice years ago taken apart and rebuilt that as far as it went any tricks that you may have up you sleeve before i spray everything with penetrating fluid and some lube stuff any help would be great Thanks for looking hope to talk soon now back to try and figure how to get these picks up here take care
 
I see you found me anyway . I'm east of Newmarket..
things that get broken , louver & neutral shifter.
The anchor for the shifter on chaincase often gets broken as well and I have
lots of those (broken) and them people fasten springs and /or wire to
them and hold the plunger in....it was designed to be put in neutral while
starting cold . once it starts and warms a little, I shut it off and just before
it quits turning over , click into gear... then restart the sled...people read
the sticker on dash and keep pulling on the lever until they break something.
It's just a square cut slider in chain case .
The lower muffler tends to stuff up with mouse nests , don't change oil
unless you need to, tough bleeding out air.The carbs ? sometimes they work
and somtimes they don't.LOL.
The 75 seemed to be very popular in Ont and salt wrecked most of them.

1975 tl 433 yamaha hydraulic drive fluid

can anyone tell me what i can use for hydraulic drive fluid for my 1975 tl 433 please ? what diffrent ones or the best to use 15w35 ? or what lol
