I have a 1995 Vmax 600 and I have been having some issues with it. I have spent the summer adding some stuff and it seems I have taken a major step backward.

I added PSI twin pipes, head gasket mod, boyseen reeds, 18T top gear, 7T drivers, 168 studs and had both clutches serviced.

I was having some serious issues after riding for about 1/2 mile it would backfire a couple of times and then just bog, no life at all, like running on one cylinder, I felt the exhaust tips and it felt like pressure coming out both, but now that I think of it I probably just felt the air being pushed through. I dropped my jets down to 153 and this made the issue worse.

I then removed the pipes and returned to the original jets I had, put in brand new plugs, and it ran like a champ for about an hours ride. I loaned it to a friend for that ride, so I did not get to enjoy it at all.

I went to go for a ride last night and after being warmed up it just didnt seem right, almost like it needed some jetting, so I pulled over and mentioned this to my riding partner and said the next day I will order some more jets.

As the ride went on it got more sluggish in the lower range but once I got to 7k on the tach it came to life. Later on in the ride again it backfired 6-10 times and then just started bogging again and running on one cylinder again. It would not even idle, I had to keep the thumb on the gas as I was always waiting for my partner to catch up(new rider, new machine). I was about 3 miles form home and buh, it died under throttle. We towed it to the closest rode and went to go pick it up with a truck later. My sled is still in the middle of paint so all I had was the hood and no panels on it at all. The hood latches were not even on and I told my friend to drive slow due to this, well 40kmh and flip goes the hood and smashes the windshield. Oh well, we had a good laugh at the cost of a $100 windshield.

Today I discoverd the y-pipe was leaking something feirce at the block so I removed them and installed brand new gaskets there, put in new plugs, and boom, she fired right up like it was sitting warmed up for me. I then went to go for a test ride and the thing immediately had a bog to leave the driveway.

The only non stock itmes in the motor are the boyseen reeds and the head gasket mod. I am running 91 octane fuel, I have adjusted the oil and throttle lever to specification, and I have bypassed the TORS switch for now.

The compression is 150 on the PTO side and 160 on driven side.

Any hints on what this could be? This machine ran like a champ last year.

Have you checked your sparkplug boots?? Check them with an ohm meter. I think it's 5 ohms, but not sure. I checked mine last year and had a couple of bad ones, then things ran much better.
