I have a couple questions for you Yamaha Exciter buffs out there.
- My steering seems real stiff on my 1992 Exciter II and I really have to reef on the handle bars when driving it to get the skis to turn the full distance. Is there somwhere under the hood to lubricate the linkage? I greased the zirks on the pogos, but it did little. Should I just W-D 40 the linkage under the pipe if I can get at it, or is there something better a guy can do?
- When I first take off and am going under 10mph, I can hear and feel what seems to be a "thumping" noise/sensation as I move. Once I speed up and giver her some gas, the thumping goes away and the sled drives and accelerates smooth. It is a real slight thumping noise at extremely slow speeds. This doesn't seem to effect the performance or take off of the sled, it just doesn't sound/feel right. Any ideas?
- My Hot Grips have power to them, but don't warm up when the sled is running and moving. Are they just burnt out or something, because there is power in the wires when the sled is running? Could I splice in any 3 wire (Hi - Low Switch) heated grips to my existing wires and just replace my current grips?
Thanks for any help!!!

My 89 was a tank to steer. I greased the pogos like you mentioned and also greased the bolts that that go through the knuckles. There are round metal slides that I greased that the bolts go through. I think there are like 4 per side. I also used a penetrating oil on the steering linkage to loosen up. It seemed to help me.
I had a clunk coming from the back-new bogies wheels did the trick for me.
Can't help with the grips-still trying to figure mine out.

Thanks Theo. The clunking I hear souns like it is coming from the belt or clutch. I have heard the stock Yamaha clutchs from this year had binding issues. That could be what I hear. I don't want to buy new grips if it is just something simple. My thumb warmer works great, the grips don't. Kinda frustrating.
