Hey there I know that you have to have drivers installed with a press. I email my local Yamaha dealer and they want $175-210 to swap drivers from one axle to another. Im in the Chicagoland area, and I wanted to know If any of yall know of some-one that can get this done for me way cheaper or has the press to do it.

Thanks

check with any auto repair shops. they most always have presses. just be sure to let them know where the drivers are suppose to be. you can find dimensions in the service manual.

As Madmatt said, any automotive machine shop can handle this project. Yes, a press is needed but noy much force at all. They slide off very, very easily with a press. All you need at the location of each driver from the end of the shaft. You could measure the location of each driver on the existing shaft. I did this two years ago, very easy process. Should take no longer than 30 min.. The dealer is asking way too much money for this job. If you lived close to me in NY I'd do it for nothing.

Do they know that you have the axle out? They may be thinking you want them to do the whole job.

If you have axcess to a drill press, this works too.
i would like some details on this concept, you must have one huge drill press as i know from experience there is alot of force required to not only install, but remove. care to elaborate?

I used a couple pieces of 4x4 and 1/2" rods to make my own press last year, it took about 45 minutes to swap drivers. I was just dealing with one axle and a new set of drivers.
im not quite following on how to make my own press. also if there is anyone in the chicagoland area that has axcess to a press or knows a good place to get it done, i would love if youd chime in. i emailed all of the yamaha dealerships in the area this morning and only one gave me a price, too high

last time i had two do this a new drive shaft was like 20.00 more than the cost to change them bought a new one, lol. if you do do it yourself, dont push them all on from one side, shortest path to were they rest is best and clean up shaft good

Hahaha, yea its a alright size press. The whole unit is probably about 7 feet tall, and is belt driven by like a 5" wide belt, with a pretty good size flywheel.

I think we can fit up to a 1 inch bit in the chuck. I used my hydraulic press to press off my wahl bro's exo's and i used the drill press (without a bit of course) to press on my Avid's....

I may know a place in homer glen if you know how to do it, they have our old press and I'm sure we can use it.
i havnt done it befor, but i have an idea on how to do it. if someone know how to do it, it would be great to have a lil explanations/instructions on how to remove drivers then instal them. thanks

You can do it, Easy as eating pie. Mark the axle with a black sharpie. Take your measurements and do it. I use a 6x6x20 square steel tube with a couple wood blocks and a hammer. If you dont have a press to use.

I still have the homemade press in my shop. I'll take picture of it when I get home tonight. It was very easy to put on. I just drove the old one off by heating them and driving them off with hammer. Since they were worn out it didn't matter if they were wrecked. But you could modify my homemade press to take them off too.

Sorry this took so long... On the one 4x4 the center hole is only an inch deep, just to hold the Axle. The other 4x4 has a hole big enough to slide up and down on the axle.
