I have a 700 MM. i replace the stator (had no juice and ohmed out low).
Started and ran. Cleaned the carbs all seemed ok. Got to place to ride and started and it either would not start or really back fire and spread the exhaust pipe at the slip fitting. When it runs it runns good, can just shake the sled and it cutts out. Loading up exhaust when pulling is that half. I think i have a chaffed wire shorting out, would like to know if that sounds correct and the most common locations of chaffing.

Typical rub throughs
Under the engine, Left knee area around the CDI unit, Steering area and behind the air box. Your problem does sound electrical to me.

You may also what to check the throttle over ride sensor on your carbs. Make sure you got the connector back together tight. You could just bypass it and see if that helps.
