What is the best way to get rid of moisture in my speedo cable? I forgot to dry it out this summer after sinking my sled on July. now the cable appears to have frozen. My speedo would only work intermittantly yesterday on my first ride of the year. I took the cable off and have hanging in my shop above the heater. My brother suggested I spray it with WD-40. Is that safe, or will it gum up when it gets really cold out? BTW, it was about -2 when went for my ride.

wd-40
that's what it was actually designed for
water dispersment 40 (40 was the number of formulas they tried before they got it)
it just so happened it worked as a lubricant as well

If the speedo was not working all the time and the cable is the problem, it would have to be broken and only catching at times and turning. You can pull the core from the housing and check it - also the best way to dry it out. It could be the drive piece in the front axle, or the angle drive too. Run the sled on a stand and watch the angle drive end. Probably more likely is ice in the speedometer itself.
