OK guys. I about have my Viper ready for her first voyage with the new motor. My issue is this. I bought the sled from a guy who said he "rode it SUPER hard".... that why i didnt mind putting a new motor in it anyway.

My question is this. He gave me a STACK of belts with it, probably 10 in total....carlyle, yamaha, etc. All good belts. The issue is that when we put the motor in, there were pieces to about 10 belts blown up in the engine compartment. All the belts he gave me are junk as far as I can tell as you can see the cord on the side of every single one. None are pulling cord out, but it is warn down to the cord.

First, I am guessing that seeing the cord means the belt is pretty much a piece of junk?

Second, why would a Viper, which is supposed to be great on belts, blow up SO many. He told me he blew up 8 last season, in around 1000KM. Would him driving it with the trottle mashed all the time cause this????

If they weren't OEM belts, it is possible, but not likely....something else is/was going on. Either he was driving it in some way I can't even imagine or the clutch's aren't aligned, broken motor mount, etc.

Talking to the guy and hearing how he rode(never slower than 100KM/h) and knowing that somehow he missed the con rod bearing on the crank knocking so hard, that it knocked his fillings out(OK, OK not literally, but he could NOT have missed it)... it may be how he drove it.

There were NO broken motor mounts, and we are just about to align the clutches next time..... so that will take that out of the question.

x2 on the break in!! I also will go threw belts if I get out on the river and open up my sled for real long periods of time! Especially if I am in powder. If they are wearing on one side I would guess that the alignment was off. I think you will be fine......try out the new motor and post back results. YOU HAVE TO BREAK IN THOSE BELTS!!!!

See, its evenly worn on both sides. I know all about wearing in belts, I keep up on watching every snowmobile TV show, and reading lots on the forums. I think that may be the exact reason they are screwed, as he just slapped a new one on, and mashed the throttle until it blew up. LOL. I hope that by the end of tonight, we have the sled started.

Is there any oil pump setting spec for a Viper??? If so, anybody know what it should be?
