I HAVE A 1998 MSRX AND WHEN I WAS RIDING YESTERDAY AND THE TOP OF THE STEARING SHAFT BROKE OFF JUST BELOW THE HANDLE BARS WHAT A HELL OF A FEELING WITH NO CONTROL DID YAMAHA HAVE A PROBLUM WITH THIS?? I FOUND A REPLACEMENT OFF A 2001 SRX IT WAS DIFFERANT IT WAS MADE STRONGER AT THE TOP AND CAN YOU CHANGE THE STEARING SHAFT WITHOUT PULLING THE ENGINE? :o|

I believe Yamaha did have an issue with that from like '97-'99??? I know that is a problem with sleds that age. I do not know what goes into replacing one.

shaft

I have a 98 srx mountain that im in the process of changing the shaft also, mine broke when i landed a small jump and i catapolted over the hood quite funny after the fact and no injury also, but anyway yes you can change it without pulling the motor you will have to unbolt it and raise it up a little but i pulled mine so i can clean, chase, and rap the wiring harness so my gauges will quit the intermintent problems the later srx sled had litle gussets on the top of the stem for support to stop this problem
