Guys - I'm a new Apex RTX owner ('07) and put a 100 miles on it this past weekend. I really struggled with the feel of the sled - extremely darty, tippy and generally a lot of work to ride. As background, I'm about 6' 220 and the sled is stock with 2 studs (in the middle) per row.

I was blown away by the power and sound of the sled and based on what I've read, it is very setup sensitive.

So far, I've been able to surmise that I should have air in the front Fox floats such that the A-arms are level with me on it - say, 50-60lbs. I've also read that guys hate the OEM skis and replace with Slydogs, Pilots etc. and often add doolys or deuceplates.

My main objective is to reduce the dartiness and then I'd just generally like to optimize the settings. My plan is to install doolys (4"? or should I go with 6") on the stock skis. Beyond this though, I've heard guys talk of "limiter straps up one hole" and "transfer rod to the max" and I have no idea what those things mean. Are the limiter straps the belts under the front of the tunnel that stop it from over-extending?

Could I get some advice on whether or not the doolys will take care of the darting and if 4" is right given the light studding? Also, can someone explain what the limiter straps are and what they have to do with handling and what the transfer rod is and how that relates?

Thanks guys - i know this is an amazing sled but I'm pretty lost.

You might have better luck posting on the 4-Stroke side. All I can tell you is that alot people have ran simons flexi-skis and a 13mm sway bar to fix the apex's handling issues.

As far as simmons skis goes, I've read more on the Gen II's for the Apex Mtn, they say in the spring snow the Gen II's suck. I love the stock Yamaha skis myself.

There is a difference between the Yamaha trail skis and the mountain skis. The trail skis have always sucked IMO.

I guess I wouldn't know, the last 3 sleds we have bought all have the mountain skis on them. I should've stated that in my post above. My bad.

No problem...I have a question though. How do the Yammie mountain skis handle on trails???
