Idleing issue

So this winter my 700 sx found itself with a new motor as the old one had a crank bearing nearing the end of its life. The motor has tons of compression and the seals are all in good shape. The problem seems to be carburation. It starts fine, runs great on the trails, fields, etc...but when I come to a stop the idle hangs around 5000 rpm or so. If I pull the choke for a split second the idle will drop back down to where it should be and all sounds fine.

I have already pulled the carbs two times now and cleaned them and blew compressed air throughout. The pilot screws are set at 1.5 turns out, could my issue be fixed adjusting those? I have not touched any jetting, it is bone stock, but I am thinking this motor has the head gasket mod from looking at it. Should I be running a different pilot with that mod (also has an aft mrkt silencer). Not sure what to try next with the carbs?

back out your fuel screws out 1/4-1/2 turn and try that......If that doesnt take care of it, it could be your TORS....PM me and i'll walk you through it

What if the o-rings were questionable on the fuel screws? They look to be a little less than perfect. Could that be a possible cause...just noticed that while taking them back apart.

Also I disabled the TORS...I Think? I read a post on here that said plug the two leads together out of the main harness. It was like that last year and seemed to run fine.

And I did check all the cables...they all have a little play in them. That was my first guess too.

Throw some new o rings in while you have the carbs upsidedown.....Save the hassel!! If your TORS is already done then i'd 90% bet it's your fuel screws

I will do that for sure, hopefully that will do the trick...should I leave them at 1.5 turns or still go out a little after replacing the o-rings?

Daman, thats a fact, it surges b/c the clutch is still grabbing...if I leave the choke on any longer than a split second though it kills the engine, so I have to imagine the pilot circuit is clean? I will try 2 turns with the new o-rings I guess and see where that gets me.

I would dial it out to 1 7/8 atleast.
I bet you are getting real fast removing the carb rack already.

Haha I can almost do it with my eyes closed at this point...such an annoying job. Really, why did they have to put the fuel screws in such a hard to reach spot?
