I have a 97 mountain max 600. Im looking for a twin set of pipes. can anybody tell me if I can find them or maybe you have a used set? thanx.

Hauck may have some yet, or you might be able to buy a set of haucks.

There are other brands like Aaen, and bender, but I don't know what you will find.

I seem to recall that a pair of twin pipes didn't do a ton for performance on these twins.

Yeah I probably shouldnt worry about it I was just trying to get a little more out of it. Thanx..

There are a few little tricks you can do like the reed valve stopper mod that gives you free hp. Clutching will give you cheap power transfer as well.

Seeing that you have smart carbs like my Venture does, I don't know how much you would really want to do to it anyways. Our sleds are pretty much the same besides mine has a passenger seat on it and mirrors;)

I saw a Bender (I think it was a bender) after muffler that will bolt on and lose a few lbs on one of the sites. He wants $100 for it and it was just re packed and sprayed with high temp paint.

I ran a set of pipes on the identical machine. IMO it was a huge waist of money. Pipes did nothing for it! I ditched the smart carbs too!

I would leave the smart carbs as they are as long as they are working as they were supposed to. The few folks that have removed the "smart" from the carbs and "dumbed" them down have done it because the electronics have failed. Those replacement electronics are very expensive. I can say that as long as the smart carbs are working properly, that removing them would be foolish if the sled is not radically modded.

sounds good. Why am I haveing a problem with the bottom end ( boggy)? I bypassed the oil pump and running mixed fuel. If the sled is warmed up and I try to nail it it wont pick up, just dies. I have tried different pilots but it lean pops. It calls for 65 pilots, I tried 55. I am rideing at about 6000-8000 feet.

If you had not bypassed the oil injection I might suspect that as the issue. 97 600 twins had huge issues with oil pumps failing. When those fail they fail full flow. Mine went on my 97, and was probably bad for years. I bought the sled only last year and knew once I started reading about the oil pump issues that this was a problem. It explained my plug fouling and stinky idling sled. After getting the new oil pump, it really woke the sled up.

I bet there is a way to test the solenoids on the smart carbs to determine if those are the issue.

I am assuming the carbs have been cleaned recently, right?

The service manual tells how to test the solenoids if you need a copy tell me and I will try to send it to you off my CD I have.
