Hey folks,
Well I bought a 2000 SRX 700, 1300 miles, GREAT condition... Got it for a steal at $1100 just because the guy was a friend of my neighbor, and didn't want to go through the hassle of selling it the old fashioned way lol. Anyway, I love this sled so far. I did have a problem with old gas, and think I have resolved that issue. I put new plugs in BR9ECS, changed the chain case oil, lubed all fittings. I filled her with premium gas, and she goes like H**l. I had her up to about 110 on an open field, with throttle to spare.

My questions are simple I think lol...
1. What kind of oil should I be using? I have a bottle of Yamaha oil, but read on here that others use Amsoil?
2. This thing is a BEAR to start in the morning, takes 10-20 pulls with choke in second position. I have even had to put a little gas in each plug to get started. Once running, and properly warmed, she runs great. I did pull the air box, checked all the fuel lines for leak (thinking she is losing the prime) couldn't find any holes. Is it possible that the fuel pump needs to be replaced?
3. Stupid, I know, but the hand warmers on this thing are waayyyy to hott, even at the lowest setting, is that normal?

Thanks in advance, I love reading all the posts on here!!!

Clean your carbs. Do a search also. Tons of info. After it has been running recently it shouldnt take that many pulls to start. Welcome to the site.

Thanks, gonna do the carbs this afternoon... I also just found a guy on e-bay selling the owners manual on a CD for $5.99, may be a wise investment, I can't seem to find it online...

Welcome to the forum.

after you celan the carbs you will still need to be start it at full choke in the mornings and just use half choke on and off to keep it running until it is warmed up. i would not touch the throttle until it is fully warmed up or you will foul plugs. after it has run the rest of the day it should start with just one pull, no choke, unless it has sat for over an hour or so. you got one heck of a deal, i bought a 2001 with only 1300km ( 800 miles) for $4400 ( canadian) . I don't regret it one bit. i know i paid a little too much but it's brand new and at a third the price of a new 4 stroke.

have fun ;)!

The hard starts are common. Mine is a b!tch and my buddy's 1998 is worse. Especially if sitting more than a day. Also same with the hand and thumb warmers. Mine and buddy's way too hot. So, to answer your "typical isssues" question with "it sounds like you already found all of them".

Enjoy the sled it sounds like you got a deal and welcome to the forum.
