Hello, I have a 99 vmax 600 that starts up good cold, Throttles up good but once you let up, you have to let engine come to an idle before you can get back in the throttle. It has this problem on the trail as well as in the garage on the stand. It started intermittently and now is constant. Switched plugs, jets, cdi box. Any ideas?
2 more thing to look at:
CLEAN CARBS
TORS
In that same order.....Carb cleaning is a must...But it sounds like TORS for what you explain...

Mine did that and it turned out to be the TORS switch at the carbs. Plug the wires from the throttle thumb lever switch into each other (eliminating the switch at the carbs linkage) and see if your problem goes away.

My vote goes with TORS then rub through then stator!

Does it by chance have old gas? Mine was doing something similar - it had last year's gas with no stabilizer (thank you, previous owner). I put fresh gas and some fuel system/carb cleaner in it and it's been fine since.

Just tried bypassing tors, no better. only running on 2 cylinders at a time now. But cylinders cutting out randomly, never the same cyl. Would the stator cause that or are there pick up coils I should be looking at?

There are three pickup spots on the outside of the flywheel they may need to be sanded to remove the rust. while it's runnig try wiggling the wires at the cdi box, test the stator.
