I installed a 79 srx 440 engine in my 80 srx and I have spark, great compression, and fuel in clyds. I can't get the thing to run. The CDI unit is from the 79 sled, will this work with the 80's wiring? Any help is greatly appreciated. The engine did run with the 80's CDI box but have no power and would die, I was told that the CDI boxs must match the engine( same year) because of the power band is this true?
Thanks,
Ken.

Did the 79 run fine in a different sled before you put it in the 80? I think you can interchange those parts but there is a difference in the 79 and 80 box programing. Not sure you would notice tho. Have you checked the timing with a dial?

Yes the engine ran before, has good comp., I put a different 79 in yesterday and it fired right up and ran great. Is it possible that the coil at the mag could have burned out due to running the 79 engine with the 80 CDI ?
