I have a dead speedo on my 98 srx. I tested speedo...works.
checked cable.....working
new '''key" yup
still no working speedo :o|
Is there anything in the end of the jack shaft? Do I have to pull the shaft to fix?

Is the bushing in the end of the shaft still there? It's a little piece of aluminum that presses into the end of the shaft. Stick the key into the shaft and try to turn the key. If you can turn it, the bushing is broken inside. Also, check the speedometer housing. Put the key into where it goes and spin it while looking where the speedometer cable screws to and make sure it spins. It's also a good time to really inspect the driveshaft bearing. The bushing can be replaced without removing the driveshaft but its a pain. I ended up removing the driveshaft and finding a drill bit that was just a little bit smaller than the bushing. I then used some engine oil to keep the bit lubed and drilled very slowly into the bushing. And I mean SLOW. I got about 1/2" into the bushing and it broke free and came out. I tapped in a new one and was good to go.

I edited my post for you. If you have a right angle drill, I think you could definitely do it without removing the shaft.
