I have a '02 Viper and want to add some hand guards to keep some of the wind off my hands. Does anybody on here have them added to their Vipers and do they hit the windsheild when you turn? What brand works the best?
Any help or links would be great, just want to know for sure what works before ordering a set.
Thanks

They will most likely hit, unless you put a 2" bar riser on. I have a low profile windshield, and they still hit, until I added the riser, IIRC. I'm not positive though, because I installed them right after each other.
I have Sportechs on my SRX and without the Rox riser they wouldn't clear.

I believe any hand guards on stock bars will hit the windy.
I have a set of powermadd on a 3.5 in rox riser & a set of sportech on a 2 in powermadd block riser. I also have low profile windys on both.
I think they both work equally well , they do keep wind off your hands, but the powermadd guards seem to be built a little bit heavier, plus I like the look better than the sportechs.

i have the powermadd ones with a low windsheild and mine don't hit. I have no riser either.
You can remove your factory bars and grind off the tab that locates the bars into the stem mount. This will allow you to tilt the bars so they don't hit the windy.

What do I have to do to add 2" riser? Can I get that much out of the stock cables and wires or do I have to change the cables?

Just add the riser, Check wire, cable clearances, maybe loosen some wire ties, I have risers on both sleds and did not have to change or extend anything. also, you can do a search on this subject, there is past information on adding risers.

When I bought my viper it had power madd guards and a 2in riser and they cleared just fine. I have since put a 4in riser in and that is about the max I can go with out adding any length to the cables.

I have the red chromed sporttechs on my viper and a 4" riser and a low windshield. Mine keep my hands a lot warmer then they used to be. Remember you don't have to order these from a snowmobile catalogue. Any decent motorcycle shop with a good dirtbike selection should stock these. They all use 7/8 diameter handlebars
