I've got a '93 and it's only a 750 not the 800 and I've yet to be beaten around here. I'm not saying I have the fastest sled around but I havent met one yet to beat it. Notable wins are against an '05 f7, formula 700 triple not sure of year, an xcr 800 an '01 I believe. This was all stock to the best of my knowledge. Not just 2 mile races either, I beat all of these sleds out of the hole and never looked back. Since then I have added quad pipes, rejetted and played a little with clutching. A well setup 800 is a worthy opponent for anything out there.

hell you dont even need a vmax4(though i am looking for one for the yami collection)ive cleaned up an f7,formula 3, mach z,plenty of mxz 600,670, and 700s,a zrt 600 a zr 500(<a very fast 500, not stock)zl600 sxr700 apex700 an mxz 440x and an xlt with a storm motor and a couple more i've forgetting im sure and my sled is an 98 srx 700 with bender cold air kit jetted clutched and triple cans it also has transfer rods and a studded track other than that as stock as it left the showroom floor point is i doubt you'll be dissapointed with this monster remember it is a yamaha!
On Sundays, back in the early 2000s we were running every sled that would show up on Radar on a hard packed, smooth, very long + straight lake trail.
A lot of sleds owners were very disappointed as their stock ZR800s, 800XCRs, MachZs, Tcats ect would rarely break 100mph on the gun.
There were a couple exceptions:
1996 VMAX4 800[absolutely out of the crate stock] 112 mph
1998 SRX 700[again bone stock] 112 mph
The VMAX4 800s also have huge performance potential if you want to start modifying them.

ALWAYS LOVE WHEN THE VMAX 4 IS THE TOPIC HERE ON TY. THERE IS A BIG DEFFERENCE BETWEEN THE VMAX 800 AND THE VMAX 750. PROBLEY ABOUT A 9 HORSE DEFFERENCE AND OF CORSE 50cc BIGGER, THE 800 HAD WAY BETTER CLUTCHES. THE LIST IS LONG. STOCK HP ON THE 800 WAS 151. STOCK BEST HP ON THE 750 WAS 140. I HAVE THE 1995 VMAX 800 THAT WAS USED IN 1995 AT THE AMERICAN SNOWMOBILER MAGAZINE SHOOTOUT. THIS SLED OUT OF THE BOX SET THE ALL TIME RECORD FOR MPH AT 105.16. A RECORD THAT STILL STANDS. KNOW YAMAHA SINSE HAS GONE FASTER. NOT EVEN MY BELOVED SRX,s. IN THE RIGHT HANDS THESE SLEDS MAKE AWSOME HP AND YOU CAN WIN ALOT OF RACES. I STILL GRASS RACE MINE. ITS STOCK BUT TUNED PERFECT. I HAVE RUN UP TO 87 mph IN 500 ft. THE ONE DOWNFALL OF THIS SLED, IS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MOVE IT. ABOUT THE HEAVEST SNOWMOBILE EVER MADE. 3:16 (yammie tony)

V Max 4's
And I might add, one more down fall.....
Small tank with LOW MPG...but hey..speed & horsepower take fuel right!!
But, they sure are fun !!!!

And the SOUND my 95 866 Mod made with Howlers at 10200 RPM!!!!!! I miss that sled, but I still have my Quad Piped + Trail Ported 96 800.

I was just curious to see exactly how much a vmax-4 weighs in at. Here is what I found:
92-94 vmax-4 750's 551lbs +20 lbs for st model
95-97 vmax-4 800's 571lbs +20 lbs for st model
98 srx 700 547lbs +24 lbs for msrx
These are all dry weights and pulled from Yamaha service manuals. So with a mere 4 lbs of weight difference between an srx 700 and vmax-4, doesnt make them seem so heavy and cumbersome anymore. Just something to ponder. I've never found my '93 to be exceedingly heavy, far from light but easily movable.

We weighed my 96 VMAX4, when it was still stock, with three digital scales used for setting up stock cars.
Everyone including me thought it would break 600lbs. I was pleasantly surprised when it came out under 600 lbs[I don't remember the exact weight] that was with antifreeze, some oil and a couple gallons of fuel. My buddies 98 SRX 700 was only a couple pounds lighter.

the weights are very close but when riding i find the vmax4 feels alot heavier than it is ,where the srx feels alot lighter than it is.sideshowBob said:We weighed my 96 VMAX4, when it was still stock, with three digital scales used for setting up stock cars.

I agree with that.
iI might be wrong but Im thinking the srx feels nimbler because it uses a trailing arm type suspension vs the armless shocks on vmax im thinking the firm ride and lack of travel makes it harder for vmax to get around obstacles(could be wrong never owned one)therefore making it feel "heavier" when trying to get over snow banks or whatever
or maybe it could be the srx seems lighter because maybe chasis is lighter but the motor is heavy enough to close gap between sleds?obviously if the chasis itself is lighter it would be easier to pick up from the rear than a vmax but that only if my theory is correct what do the motors weigh?

Not sure but the vmax-4 engine has to weigh more I would think, it's a 4 cylinder compared to a 3.
