I own a 1996 Yamaha Vmax XT with around 2500 miles. Yeah, I know, I don't use it enough. When we first got the snow I just pulled it out of storage and did about 2 miles at slow speeds to give my 2yo daughter a sample of snowmobiling. So this weekend I give it a good once over to check wear parts and clean the carbs and I notice the body panel next to the exhaust is warped from heat. Everything looked OK as far as no broken heat shields or anything missing. Stuck a camera down the exhaust and did not see anything obvious or rusted away. After cleaning the carbs, the exhaust was definitely "cleaner". I rode over 20 miles yesterday and did not see any further warpage or excessive heating of the body panel.
Anyone have this experience? Any theories on what happened?
Thanks

If you were running lean, it would be getting hotter.
