Steering play

Well i have been out riding alot. The viper is running great, but i have a question. I seem to have about a inch of play in the handle bars. The sled handles great, and doesnt dart at all, but the handle bars are sloppy. I know that most of the yamaha's that i have rode, and even looked at brand new had some play. Is there a way to fix this?

1 inch of play is way more than what would be considered normal. I'd be looking at every hiem joint, ballcrank and steering shaft bushings.

I've got less than 1/4" on my '01.
 
Yea it seems too sloppy to me. I was just curious if anyone else had thos same issue. I will look at it tonight to see if i can spot where the worn parts are.
