My shop manual is wrong...
Or else I am completely blind!

I purchased the shop manual for my 87 Yamaha XLV 2up sled. I'm trying to adjust the springs in the suspension to support more weight. Looks pretty darn simple in the shop manual, even shows a picture of what bolt to loosen and then move the spring holder up/down within a notched frame.

Well, the frame isn't notched like the picture, it's one solid bolt hole (or at least it is if I'm looking in the right spot)!

I'm assuming I should be able to adjust the spring setting while the suspension is still within the track. Directions are extremely straightforward:

1: Loosen rear spring hook securing nut.

2: Adjust spring set position by turning rear spring adjustment bolt.

There's even pictures for the love of humanity....

I've been under the sled 5 times, and can't match the pictures to what I'm seeing. I don't see a rear spring hook securing nut towards the back of the sled.
I certainly don't see a rear spring adjustment bolt, anywhere!

Any of you guys use to have an old XLV and happen to be familiar with the suspension setup? Any tips or thought would be appreciated - I'm trying to make it so the machine doesn't bottom out as much while I'm carrying one of the kiddos with me down the trails.

Cheers

The rear suspension springs are the primary weight support. There preload can be adjucted by a cam mechanism. Given the age of the spring, you may need to replace the spring as the preload is only 1/8 total travel at best.
