Fuel Filter Woes

I just discovered this website and I am very impressed. I pulled my carbs and cleaned them (never done in eleven years) and fixed my wiring harness issue under the engine after three years of malfunctioning lights. My next dilemna was the fuel filter change on my 99 SRX 700. This definitely was some type of bad joke played by our Japanese friends. No matter how hard I tug on the fuel line it is three inches too short to come out of the top hole. My question is how does the clip come off that holds the fuel line on the aluminum fitting outside the bottom of the fuel tank. The clip looks to be one solid piece and I don't want to destroy it by prying it off? I have read the various threads on changing the fuel filter. Why not just buy a new fuel hose six inches longer and the next time it would exit the top of the tank and take two minutes to change?

I think you're onto something with just changing out that pain in the a$$ hose for something a little longer.
