Hey there I picked up a 87 exciter 570lc for almost nothing, it has a single PSI pipe on it. It wouldnt idle right so I took off the Mikuni VM-38 with heated carbs. cleaned them in a gallon of carb cleaner. Im not good at all with carbs. There are wires comming off the bottom of both carbs, one has a harness and the other is brocken off. They were not hooked up when I took them off and i could not find a plug. What is it and do i need it? So I cleaned up the carbs, the floats were sticking so I freed them up. Also a small (jet)??? was all gummed up in the bottom of the carb, cleaned it too. I re-installed the carbs hooked up all the lines minus the coolant (were no hookups.) And now the engine floods really bad and i cant get it started at all. How do I adjust these carbs? Were these stock carbs cause my service manual shows totally different carbs.
I would love to get this sled out on the snow tomorrow for testing here in the chicagoland area befor I take it up to Munising next month. All the help would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone knows what else I should do to this sled to help it out. And would diconecting the Tors help out also, how do I and what/ where is it?
Thank you

I agree. I have the same sled same issue. If I shut the fuel off when I am done riding it is OK. If I forget I have to pull the plugs and pull until all the gas is out of the cylinders. A full gas tank makes it worse in my case.

ok so i adjusted the mixture screws on the carbs today and it started up in two pulls. but the machine really smokes bad. i dont think the oil pump is working, it sounds like it is just burning gas only. i am going to premix some oil 50:1 tomorrow and see if it runs better. anyone have any imput on this? thanks

I put in 2 gallons of premix fuel, the sled runs now and will actually idle finally. drove it around the yard a lil bit till it started smoking. the front coolant hose clamp was loose leaking out coolant. got that fixed now. ordered a new thermostat, should be here by monday, the old one is stuck in the open position.
