I’m trying to remove my skid from my SRX 2001 and the track windows don't allow a 14m socket in them. Is there a trick to loosening the tension on your skid?

Its tight getting in. I usually have to take a big screwdriver and pry the track over a bit through a window so the window lines up better with the bolt

I got it but now it looks like I have more problems. Looks like the W arm is cracked and I need to get the top wheels off to replace the transfer rods.

Do you guys know if I need to press these wheels off?

Thanks!

if w arm is cracked skid should come out for removal and repair of it,much easier to remove transfers then.

Thanks Guys!!

I am taking the W arm to get it welded but I remember seeing on this site someone made reinforcement brackets so it didn't crack again. Anyone remember this thread or have some pictures of the brackets they made?

skid

remember when you put the skid in to remove the transfer rod bolts or you will fight to get the back bolts in!!!!

If you smashed your W arm in pieces like I did, you wouldn't need to back off the track. My new W arm was reinforced very similar to the one in the above thread and it has held together pretty good so far.....well 250 miles so far.

Be sure to buy the replacement transfer rods that you don't need to remove the top section of the transfer rod. Ask me how I know. Way easier to deal with. Mine did not want to come off easy and didn't hardly clear the boggie wheels, but do work.
