Hi Guys,

98' srx 700 - carbs just cleaned, new needle and seat on clutch side.

Problem >> Starting will foul either clutch or mag plug 75% of the time. If not, it will run fine.

If it sits 20 minutes, it'll foul either plug on take-off or it loads up
a few kms down the trail.

I know its too rich as the plug threads are wet all the way up. The middle
cylinder is always good. Compression is good at 125psi across the board.

Assuming the jets are stock (147.5 / 146.3 / 146.3) Do I turn down the pilots by 1/8 and go from there?

I'm a new Srx owner so thanks guys!!

More info,sled stock?

whats your staring procedure?

choke circuits clean and choke adjusted? (2mm play),float level within spec?

what plug?

jetting seems ok..

Engine stock, carbs stock. Carbs just cleaned and sync'd by yamaha dealer.

Light clutch kit.

BR9ES Plugs

Starting procedure.

>> 0 Degrees > Half choke, fires, turn off choke, blip choke until
it idles.

>> Below -5 degrees - Full choke, fires, half choke blips until it idles.

No throttle during warm up at all.

Right now its using 1/2 the oil for every 1/2 tank of premium gas.

your rich on oil, you should be using 1 qt for every tank. This would give you a 50:1 ratio. Is you oil pump cable within specs? You are also going to want to use br9ecs plugs!!!

One of the yamaha guys mentioned that oil cable spec.

This will sound stupid, but where / how do I check it?
I'll check the service manual to find it.

Ok...Starting procedure and plugs are good but run the BR9ECS @ .030, IF your dealer did the carbs right that sould be good also, oil tho is too much,

what river posted but use 20-22mm,that spec is for a different sled, thanks RR.. ;)!

Play around with that setting,a bigger gap is LESS oil,you want 1 qt to 1 tank of fuel(12 gals) like river posted above.

did you check to make sure choke plungers are returning good? i don't trust dealers sorry.

Thanks for the welcome!!

The SRX did however manage when it was alot colder here
to take out a few 04' 800 Doos and an XCR. Now just to get this
RICH issue addressed.

**Anybody want to trade a Bender Can for the stock can?

Get it running to its full potential and your good. Also do a search on clutching SRX theres a killer set up with stock parts that can be used to make it rip pretty good,id post it all but search has all the info on this, lots of stuff about power-vales etc anything you want to know it's here.

Oh and keep the stock silencer, aftermarket cans are frowned on here by most because of the noise and they offer no HP gain in some situation you will LOSE HP.

Thanks Daman, I meant the ex owner put a BENDER can on it.
I want to swap for the stock can lol.

I'm 38 man, too old for TRIPLE TWISTED SISTER comin out my
exhaust..lol.

I'll post in the For Sale / Swap. :letitsnow

So I measured throttle end / choke end play,..specs are spot on.

Now, the gap between the oil pump cable is about 5-6mm not
the 20-22mm Daman / River have mentioned. Curious why it would
be set so rich. I'll attach a pic of cable later tonite. If its out of
adjestment that much, no wonder why its eating plugs like chicklettes
and using 3-4 times the oil it should be.

:ban: << the guy that adjusted that cable to its present spec.

Thats why I don't trust the dealer techs!!! Not to say they don't know what they are doing, but they are human!!! Sounds like you found your problem. If you were taking down sleds before.....they are going to have to look out now!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just asking here are you sure you measured it right? pulled apart the joint as far as it could go? then measured "a"?
