how do I tell the difference between 600 and 500???

I got hozed really really bad on this sled!!!! Im just trying to make sure all the parts are right before I put it back together.....

It wasnt using any oil.... you might have seen my other thread...

Well, that is a pump for a 600cc, and not the 500, but unfortunately thye 97 and 98 600 oil pump is an 8CR pump. the one you want, from a 98 is
8CR-13100-01-00

The one now listed for a 97 600 is 8CR-13100-01-00 (replaces 8CR-13100-00-00) So you definitely don't want the 8CR-13100-00-00. The old version was the faulty one that Yamaha replaced under warranty on many 97's, and the rest of them out there like mine went out of warranty and I had to buy one last year after I bought the sled.

So, Is that the new updated part? or is it the old bad design that if it hasn't failed yet (probably) then it will soon? if it honestly is froma 98 then it will work, provided it is not bad. To be honest in all my years of sledding with oil injected sleds, I have never had an oil pump go out on any brand of sled except for this 97 venture 600 i have. That tells me it probably is fine.

My sled with the updated part on it is not where I am, so I cannot look at the old part (still have it) or the new one on the sled.

Maybe the reason it wasn't using any oil was because of air in the system or clogged or pinched line. What I would do is clean up the tank and check and make sure port is open then I would install new oil lines that you can see thru. Now premix your gas and oil in the fuel tank when you get it running then you know its getting oil. Know make sure you bleed the oil pump there is a bleed screw on it. So when you start it up for the first time now watch the oil lines and you can see the oil moving in the lines reach down and by hand with the engine idleing open up the oil pump full open and watch the oil flow thru the pump if it dont the pump is bad and you will have to replace. If everything looks good run the sled for a tank full of gas and you should use a quart of oil about 50:1 ratio. Also make sure that when you have the throttle and full throttle the lines are lined up on the oil pump you should get a service book if you dont all ready have one. I have an extra motor case but I hate to part with it as I have 2 600 twins but I think I saw one on ebay for sale so check it out.

Thats the right pump for a twin 97-99 600 yes,no way of really testing it,you need to measure cc out put at idle but with out knowing the spec your SOL.

you need to just install it on the sled with premix in the tank and monitor usage to gas ratio. Get 'er dialed in...
