I'm almost finished going completely through my 2000 SRX which has 13000 miles on it. I found 3 coolant hoses that were almost rubbed through, probably would not have made it another 1000 miles. If you have a high mileage sled, check the coolant lines where they are in contact or close to having contact with other parts. I bought some large dia. plastic shrinkable tubing from an electronic supply house and put 2 layers of this plastic tubing on the new hoses where they are in contct with other parts.
I checked the wiring harness which runs under the engine, a rub through was in progress, but only the electrical tape was rubbed through. I removed all of the old slimy tape, inspected the harness, retaped it then added a nylon jacket over the harness. Should be good for another 13,000 miles.

I found the same thing when working on mine this fall and I cut up pieces of an anitfreeze jug and taped them to the wear spots on the hoses. I figure the hard plastic should wear a long time.

i found those years ago on my 98 (before it starting leaking) and when i was going thru my 2001 during the Xmas holidays i wrapped it the same way. i cut up an old inner tube and wrapped it around the hoses and then wire tied it to keep it from moving. I believe you're taking about the right hand side right above the recoil and again below and in front of the motor right? you will also need to keep an eye out for the coolant line that goes to the carbs on the clutch side. i had it rub throw years ago. i wrapped it with a bigger piece of hose and now i make sure the retaining clip is bent away from the side so it doesn't make contact.
