My SRV, completely stock, has started to do a backfire or exhaust backfire when I let off throttle shortly after it comes back to idle. And it only shows up after the sled is fully warmed up after being ridden. Thats the first symptom. Second symptom is that the idle is now running about 2500, and thats with the idle screw backed all the way out! Pilot screw setting doesn't correct the problem even if I turn it out 3 turns plus. Even at a 2 turn setting, at idle I can smell unburnt fuel in the exhaust, it really doesn't act like its lean. Plugs are a nice dark tan. Otherwise runs fine. The backfire isn't a continuous backfiring, just a single pop after the revs come back down. Even so, its not normal.

If its actually an exhaust leak allowing unburnt fuel to ignite after letting of the throttle, would that also cause the fast idle?

Anyone had a similar problem? Lots of things to chase, would be nice to narrow down the best ideas before diving in.

Thanks
