I posted a question about this a few weeks ago and didn't get much feedback. If you have used screw-in lug studs could you let me know how they worked for you, maybe the brand you used and possibly the conditions/type of riding you did with them.
Thanks,

I was interested in these also for our Viper with 1.25 lug camoplast 136" track. I could not find screw in stud which is carbide tipped though. I was just looking for the weight savings. I did find out the screw in studs are not advisable for speeds over 100 mph as they have a tendensy to come out. Al

i had a bud that put in 240 studs and about 3 lbs of ice screws. guess he just liked more rotating mass.
seems to me, if they rip out, then there goes your lug as well. the ice ripper track would be a better alternate if not going studs.

Thumper, that is what I thought. When I added the long track to the Viper I did not want to exchange the Drivers also. I did not stud this machine. Only machine in fleet which is not studded. Works fine in all situations but icy corners. Al

The Camo Predator 1.25" lug track I have is new with about 300 miles on it so I am not going to go and buy another new or slightly used track like the ice ripper. I want to make this one work well for slowing down in icy conditions only as it has great traction (accel or deccel) in all other conditions. Is there anyone else out there that has used them that can give me some input?

Bergstrom runners makes a product called trail grabbers that are designed to screw into the lug and just give some bite for icy corners and such.None of these products bite like a traditional stud and definetely are not for aggressive holeshots.

The screws work ok on a low powered sled. They don't work very well for high powered sleds or aggressive drivers. The Ice Ripper is a much better option, but not quite as good for traction as actual studs for the most aggressive drivers.

About ten years ago, I put the Bergstrum screws in my track on a 95 V-max 600 two-up. They worked very well for what they were intended. Greatly improved braking and control on glare ice and icy corners. A huge improvement for trail riding and I never lost any over a 600 mile season. I would go with studs for very aggressive riding, but for added control, the screws work great!

the big snow draggers will use these screw in lugs and if u heat the screw be for u install them then they will go in burning when they cool off the rubber molds 2 the screw and they will stay in and yes they work well for traction and a lot less weight than ur conventional picks. snow draggersa i,m talkin about are puting out 300hp on nos . they do have a screw that has a pick point 2 it.
