What would be a fair price for an unrestored running SS433. It is decent shape. Also what kind HP did they put out.

40 hp @ 6500 rpm. Difficult to say much about the price without seeing what you're looking at. Cool sled with factory pipes. G.
Ss 433
Doesn't matter what a fair price would be now. He backed out of selling the sled for now. But if and when he decides to he will let me know first.

There is one presently listed on vintagesleds in NY. I'd be interested but the shipping would be too stupid for me. I can testify that they were the fastest production 440 that year as I beat everything I raced. In 72 when everybody started coming out with the F/A's, I managed to spank 400 Ski-Poo and Cat, but never ran into any 440 F/A's until the following year and I couldn't quite catch them. Mind you my sled sported an SR track, SR clutch spring and belt and was tweaked pretty good.
I was kind of mean as I always purposely passed guys on the left side, that way they got the full blast of my pipes at full battle cry! I would see guys cringe from the assault on their ears as I passed them! Wicked sound! G.

Ss 433
The one listed in NY was the one I was going to pick up. It is less than 20 miles from me. I have already bought 2 other sleds from him. He is having second thoughts about the SS433. I know he would part with the SS 338 but it is not in the best of shape. Oh well I don't really need it right now anyways. I just want it. LOL

Yeah, 'want' vs 'need'! I want the whole set, SS 338 (have) SS 396 and SS 433.
There's also a 72 GP 433 on Vintage right now that looks pretty good!!!! G.

Gp 338
I have a all original GP 338. It has the yamaha warrenty conversion to single carb. I have the original air box also. It has original tool kit and has like 1500 miles. Came from a ghent over 70 that used it in the good old days for his trail sled. Chassis is in perfect shape. It just needs a good cleaning. All the chrome is in great shape though. I got this 76 Exciter from the same guy.

Did you see that guy's pics on vintage sled, SRX land! Wow! I'd love that Exciter, the US models were so much prettier than the Canadian versions with the black, one of these days......

Can you tell me more about the warranty conversion to single carb? I had heard about it, but don't know any details. Was it that the 73 came with dual carbs but didn't work that well and they converted them? Then the 74's came with the single.
The 76 STX/Exciters came with twin carbs, so now I'm real curious about the differences between the two engines. Porting must be. Your sleds are nice, the Exciter is gorgeous. G.

carbs
They just had problems keeping the carbs in sync. So they just set them up with a single carb. they put a single carb plate on the air box. I have been told that they ran faster with the single carb over the dual carb set up. Here is another pic of the exciter.

Yeah, racked is the only way to go with twin carbs for sure, and Aaen does suggest not going to twins unless you're really going 'twins' to the wall, so to speak, if you know what I mean?
Yes the Exciter is sharp, I far prefer the white ones to the black, or even the black and white.
Just picked up an 80 Exciter 440 in the fall, not too bad, all it really needs is a fuel pump, windshield, one left hood hinge, TLC, and of course a bumper and re-painting of the tank cover!
You wouldn't know of a source for new replacement bumpers would you?
I have been thinking about painting mine like yours. But from looking at your picture and others I have seen, one thing I will do for sure is what I have done with both of my other vintage sleds.
I never liked the look of that discoloration and crud under the windshield around the fasteners, so I made a polished stainless steel molding for it.
I took the windshield off, pressed it flat-ish on some paper and traced a pattern. Went to the local metal supermarket and found a scrap of 1/16" polished stainless steel that was big enough.
Took it home and traced the pattern on to it with a felt pen, center punched the holes, then took a zip cut disc on an angle grinder and very carefully cut it out.
Cleaned up the edges, drilled the holes, then bolted it on, one fastener at a time working from the center out and just molded it around the hood with my hands to bend it, (stainless is soft if you've never worked with it) and with just a wee bit of patience, I had a polished stainless molding for the bottom of my windshield!
It isn't that difficult, hides that crap and really dresses them up. I think it would go great with this color combination on an Exciter.
Thanks. G.

The Gp 433 for 74 was the reed induction engine. That engine has so more power.

I bought a 74 GP 433 new and still had my 71 SS 433. The 71 would take the 74's lunch money with ease all day, any day. The GP was rated at 39 @ 7000 as opposed to the SS at 40 @ 6500. G.
