I have a real nice 340 Excell II to be specific. It's got 1800 miles on it and last winter the oil pump went bad, and it burned down. I had an engine guy do a rebuild, and he removed the oil pump and tank. I've ran a couple of tanks of richly mixed fuel, but now that it's broken in, here is the million dollar question.....
What ratio of gas/oil mix should I use?
I'd like it not to smoke so bad that people can smell me comin a mile away.

Just a DAB will do ya!!! Unless you got a chemistry set to measure it out..lol. I would personally start rich and go leaner according to the plugs or just say "A DAB WILL DO YA". I need to get a Job...

32 to 1 Tony!? That seems like a lot to me. My Dad calculated the oil consumption on my old 71 SL 338 and it worked out to 60 to 1 at full boogie and 100 to 1 at idle.
As for mixing oil and gas, I'd put a new pump on it and go with the oil injection. I have never had a problem with them or even seen a problem unless guys were trying to put 30 weight motor oil through them. That pump failure is the exception and not the rule in my experience and I've been playing with these things for long time and have put a ton of miles on lots of them. G.

Yamaha staked its reputation on the reliability of its oil pump system and I doubt VERY much if the pump is really bad. Look at dirt or coagulated oil and water in the oil filter or as the fellow above says that maybe some kind of crankcase oil was put in. Pull off the pump, rinse it out, clean tank filter and lines. Leave hose off the pump and add new Yamalube to the tank and let it run out of the hose at the pump inlet until there are no air bubbles in the filter or line - make sure. Connect the hose to the pump with a reliable clamp and make sure your gas tank is mixed 50:1 gas/oil. Run the first tank through and just add gas from then on. Make sure you check and adjust oil cable freeplay so the pump is adjusted correctly. Now the real problem for the burn down - clean the carbs and make sure the jets are the correct one's specified by Yamaha for your elevation - then go and have fun - Big Bob

Oil pump was probaly not the problem. Make sure you use yamalube or amsoil or another quality oil.
