i bought a 92 exciter II which was basically stripped. i have a 89 sled which had fire damage. transfered most of the parts over to the newer body including the engine.
problem is....
bought a new drive belt for it but the belt for a 92 is too wide for the 89's primary and the engine won't run with it on (barely....)
bought a new belt for a 89 but the belt seems too short as it's sitting close to a 1/4 inch below the top of the secondary.
was there some change in the distance between the engine and the secondary from a 1989 to a 1992 sled?
if so, what are your suggestions?
i can only come up with grinding the motor mounts to allow the engine to move back towards the secondary.

Use the 92 primary if you have it. If not switch the secondary from the 89 onto the 92. Any clutch (primary or secondary) setup for a certian belt width must have a compatible mate to run with. It sounds like this is your issue.
