Thinking of buying a 1999 Phazer with bad motor.
Could an older Phazer motor be swapped in its place?
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks

these motors are both 485 but are different so the pipe might not work on it or airbox etc. you'll need to check the fit on all that first. Why not just rebuild the motor?

Rebuild the 1999 Unless Its Exploded!!

Also, the wiring harness to the motors will most likely be different. There is a difference between the 93 & 94 Phazer 485's. 88-93's are the same.
Then 94 & foward are the same & I am guessing that with the motor
change after the "pogo stick" era, the wire harness changed quite a bit!!

If it would be possible to swap the flywheel and stator from the newer style one onto the old motor I don't see how it would be any different.

I think the mounting points are different on the crankcase.

Check the timing specs on both.

Edit: I checked the parts diagrams and the crankcases and mounting look to be quite a bit different.

yes the engine mounts are different. These motors are extremely hard to get used parts for. Fab some custom engine mounts. Got a 99 phazer that blew the PTO piston to shreds. Looks like the skirt broke but can't find a used cylinder or even a rebuilt one without going with a wiseco sleeve. good luck
