so i was blazing across the river yester day and heard a a slap under the hood. the belt striped off the top layer off the belt...seemed to work a little sluggish until i changed the belt the new belt seems to be squeeling at idle. will this go away when it wears in. why would the belt tear like that?

this has been talked about a gazillion time. You have to remove washers behind the 3 bolts behind the secondary. When a belt starts to wear down, you add washers to get the belt to ride up higher.Since you are installing a new belt start with no washers.

by the way was that a OEM belt or aftermarket that you blew.Very very rare to see a Yamaha belt blow unless your center to center and alignment is off.

Yes that is a common way for belts to come apart. They will all blow in time.
excessive heat causes this
blew mine on my warior towing broken sleds out. 1st good ride (long high spped run) after i did this is when it happened. squealing is normal on a new 8dn-00 belt. the new one you will get is a -01 as they changed the profile so it does not do this any more.

yeah the guy at yamaha said that it was and odd ball.he had to orde it in...105 bucks. pretty much what i would expect from the dealer.
What belt did he order for you? What year and model sled is this on?
The 8DN is hardly an oddball, but you may have a model with one of the other belts.
$105 is very high, you should be able to get it from a TY advertiser for considerably less. I pay $40 - $45 USD for 8DN belts.

its just a vmax sx700 i didnt see how it was an oddball either....how do i get one of these cheep belts are they yamaha i hear they will eat up anything but yamaha.
pm port yamaha or any of the other site sponsors. it will have to be shipped in from the us so make shure you facto in the exchange and shipping charges when you price it. going to have to give port a call and see if it is worth it as my dealer gives me a good deal as i usually pay around $95.00 including pst and gst.
