Put this Q? in General section, got no response. Finally got sled back last week, ran good 20 mi., then new rebuilt PTO side piston blew... Engine was bored over with new pistons and seal kit. Its a 90 Phazer II I got for off trail stuff, but its gotta run. Rebuilder has yet to give me feedback on what is up-what to do and comments would be appreciated...

exhaust side piston melted away?

sounds like a lean burn down form improper jetting/air leaks, bad gas....

got any pics you can post up?

Sled is away from me and don't even know if it has been looked at yet. Guy I have working on it has good knowledge, but don't know about his commitment to this process. Your ideas are some that I've been thinking may be what caused problem. Only wouldn't bad gas affect both cylinders?

the PTO cyl is almost always the first to go. i have no idea why....
i would think running too lean. but you would know once seeing the piston.
if you get a chance snap a few pic's and post back.

any mod's done to your sled recently? new exhaust or running without the airbox?

was the crank seals done with the rebuild? bro just bought one of these sleds and that is what burnt the same piston down. got lucky and got all the parts at a clearance at local yammy dealer other than crank seals.

Thanks guys, won't get to sled til weekend and will see what is what. Our snow is gone or not good so the week down won't matter much...I'm feeling like he might have taken a short cut (carbs or seals...).

ya, that is what happened to the one my brother got. kid could not get the clutch off so just threw it together and rode it untill it poped.
