Question on the 96 500 xt I just picked up. The secondary clutch will twist when you grab each side and turn them in opposite directions, after approx. 1/8 turn it then hits like a stopping point, but if you really push you can get them to begin to separate like they should. when you let go they both spin right back into closed position like they should no problem. I have never seen one do this, all others that I can recall started to separate immediately when I started twisting. Is this normal for a 500 or do I have problems?

By the way, if I need a clutch anyone have one. Also, I have a buddy that is looking for a secondary for a 96 600.
sounds normal to me .......

thats normal, you have to push the sheves open while you twist or they will contact each other . in other words keep the three plastic buttons in contact with the helix and it should open smoothly.YamahaGuy said:Question on the 96 500 xt I just picked up. might need the clutch taken apart and cleaned as the bushing that rides on the outside of the helix plugs up with belt dust over time.

Blew it out really good with the compressor and all seemed tight so I tried it last night when I got home since we had some fresh snow and everything seemed to work ok.
