will the 01 stator fit a 98...if not can the cases be modified?

Any year stator will fit any year case. The difference is in the diameter of the flywheel. The newer style flywheels are smaller, which will require you to move the pickup inward. It can be done.

Would there be an issue with the higher wattage of the newer stator.
