Is my 99 SX600 supposed to have a thermostat? On the parts fiche they call a few parts "thermostat housing", thermostat cover" and "thermostat gasket/seal" but there is no actual thermostat listed??

there is no thermostat in my 2001 SXR600.
if i read correctly the other day red head motors dont have them .cause they dont run as hot and have smaller coolers ...olny the srx`s and viper`s have them for horsepower reasons .....but i could be wrong

I spoke to a Yamaha tech about this the other day, none of the redheads have them. Not sure why, you would think maintaining a constant heat level would only make them run better.
That's what I was thinking too. And on the parts fiche when they call things thermostat this and thermostat that, you would think there would be a thermostat.

some polaris motors did not have thermostats. nascar motors don't have thermostats. it's just another mechanical item that can fail & cause problems...especially on modified motors.
