I have a 96 Vmax XT 600 and I'm hearing a loud knocking type noise at high speeds. I have no idea what it is... Kinda sounds like a rod knock but I dont think it is because engine sounds fine any other time. Clutch is in decent shape. Any ideas? If you need more info let me know!
Is it something rattling like the exhaust? Is it the belt guard? Secondary clutch spaced correctly? Chain in the chaincase set correctly? Brake caliper in good shape and tight? Lots of variables. Is it coming from around the engine?

checked the track for rips?
look the belt over ...had a belt clunkin on top end nothing on bottom end

Exhaust is in good shape, Secondary clutch is spaced rights, belts in ok shape. Chain is set correctly. Track has a few bad spots it it, couple pull thrus. Id say track is on the loose side, I am hearing some ratcheting at very low speeds and light throttle,
Does it sound like it's coming from under the cowl or under your seat?

Sounds more like under the cowl. But could be under the seat... I'm leaning towards the track ratcheting but when it does it at high speeds is it very loud?
