Guys,
Looking for some advice here. I have an 89 exciter yard sled. Kids and I have a blast putting around the property. The track is getting very worn. I have a track that came with it. I took off all the studs on the backup track cause I sometimes tow a sled with the kids. I had the skid pulled out by my mechanic and he called me that the skid was cobbed up and unusable. When looking at it from the back and above it is like a slight j. The bottom was cracked with a plate bolted on to hold it together. And the front w arm was cracked. The coils are digging into the skid as well. The bump stops were long gone as well. I never really noticed because it was painted up nice. I wondered why the track did not touch the front of the rail on the one side. Anyone know what other skids will work in this machine? Kinda torn whether I should replace it or sell as a parts sled. I told him to give me a couple days to think about it.

Sorry, did not think to get pics. I was so mad and felt ripped off I did not bother. Looking at the skid from the rear the right aluminum rail was broken through. they drilled 2 holes on each side of the crack and bolted in a plate. The left w arm was cracked all the way through. Even if I was to get it welded and straightened out. The aluminum rails are bent up. The springs are no good and the triangle plastic spring seats are busted up. In other words it is junk. It would cost too much to repair this skid. It is obviously too old of a sled to put that much money in to. He was upset that they new what they were doing and painted it up nice to conceal the damage. When it was on the lift and running he said the track would wander back and forth a couple inches so it is a time bomb. The clips on the track were digging into the rails, and the knubs inside the track are rubbing on everything. Like I said it was painted up nice so I really did not give it a second look. What upsets me the most is I told the guy I would have my kids on this thing. But Karma is a bitch right? Probably have him put it back together and sell it as a parts sled. I could not sell it with a clear conscience knowing all the problems. I just wanted to have a little fun with the kids and I get this nightmare. Sorry for the book-just venting.

sucks when people push of problems that they know are there and hide, but it doesnt sound all that bad really, should be used parts available, and then some time do swap them out. on the down side, that suspension was only used for a couple years.sounds like the w-arm is repairable, so you would be looking for a rail, spring, and some misc parts. i assume the plastic peice that shot is the triangular one that the spring rides on. i would think on the used market, assuming the track is runnable, you wouldnt be out more than $150 aquiring parts. i say once the dust settles and your not so mad that you will see the brighter side of things. try to contact racerrob on here and see what he did with that old exiter i sold him. i think he was parting it out and it had a good skid. or, just start looking for parts before you give up on the sled.

Well I wanted to switch out tracks, it is shot. That's how we found this mess. I think I am going to sell it for parts. Even if I were to find a skid for really cheap, what else is cobbed up under this thing? Might just cut my losses.
