I noticed some oil dripping from my front heat exchanger. It was injection oil, so I pulled the carbs off and got a look in there. The line that runs under the motor to the bearings (I assume) seemed to be where it was wet. I gave it a slight tug and the line pulled out. It looked like there was a check valve under there that actually pulled apart. At any rate, I am pulling the motor and have a few Q's.
I have the motor ready to come out except for the oil and coolant lines. Does anyone have a slick way of pulling the coolant lines without draining everything on to the shop floor. I have pulled other motors before and I hate having antifreeze everywhere.
The motor has 7400kms on it. While it's out, is there anything else I should do to it? I actually have another, lower mile, oil pump coming already. Should I do anything with the water pump? Anything else? I'm not planning on selling this one anytime soon, so while it's apart, might as well get the common items replaced.

I have never found a clean way on pulling hoses off. I would change your fuel and oil lines if they are hard. Oil pump usually don't go bad on the tripples. But 97s did have a stator issue. And a outer crank seal/brg issue.

Stator and crank has been OK so far. I hope I got away lucky with the oil. I know it wasn't leaking through the summer and I only put about 30 miles on it this year because we had no snow. Knock on wood anyway.
I have read before that the early oil pumps would wear out. Mine was getting pretty thirsty on oil, which is why I bought another one. The leak just sped up the installation time frame!

I pulled the motor last night without making too much of a mess. When I got it out, the check valve on the lines under the motor was pulled apart
It looks like it just presses back together. I ordered a new one today ($30)
Anyone have one of these just fall apart before? Nothing could have touched it because it sits below the motor.

Ok, this is starting to cheeze me off. Pulled motor, changed the check valve and put the newer oil pump in. Put it all back together, put premix in as a precaution and took it for a ride. Worked good. Next morning there was a spot of oil under it again.
I was finally supposed to go on a ride Saturday, so Friday night I pulled the motor AGAIN. Nothing in particular looked wet, so I replaced all of the oil lines. Put 300K on Saturday and it ran good. Let it thaw out over night and this morning, it was dripping oil AGAIN.

Getting tired of taking this thing apart!!!!
